ABOUT THE FILM
LOGLINE
A film retelling the Invasion of the Pines, celebrating its 50-year legacy while confronting the internalized homophobia still echoing in the LGBTQ community today.
LONG SYNOPSIS
Each summer, a flotilla of drag queens crosses the bay from Cherry Grove to the Pines in a ritual known as the Invasion. What began as an act of protest in 1975 has become one of the most iconic LGBTQ+ traditions in the country.
At its 50th anniversary, the 50TH INVASION OF THE PINES captures the spectacle, history, and deeply personal stories behind the event. Through intimate interviews with legendary figures and participants—alongside present-day footage of the milestone celebration—the film explores how a single act of defiance evolved into a lasting symbol of queer identity, community, and resilience.
