LOGLINE
Two students must solve the clues and reconcile with their demanding professor to beat a desperate grad student to a shocking historical discovery.

SYNOPSIS
Hardline Dr. Caldwell assigns a final project: Refute a historically accepted narrative. The brilliant but disenchanted Ally Draper laments being paired with the adventurous Joe Stokes, who insists they explore their college’s mysterious seal. Ally retorts that the seal is merely a Presbyterian icon, but when Joe identifies a French cipher in the seal and discovers its creator was rumored to be Napoleon Bonaparte’s heroic Marshal Ney, Ally halts. Is the seal merely a Presbyterian icon, or could Napoleon’s top general have hidden a series of clues protecting a scandalous, centuries-old secret surrounding America’s cornerstone document?

FOOTNOTE is Kevin Carlock’s directorial debut. His original screenplay attracted Tom Ackerman (Anchorman, Beetlejuice, Christmas Vacation), and casting is taking place throughout 2024 with the intention of filming at Davidson College in May 2025. Follow FOOTNOTE on Instagram!
